From past few days, I am trying to teach my lil one to sit and write a few letters. I sometimes wonder how my mom taught me. She does tell me that raising kids then was way easier than raising kids now.
My lil one has lack of patience… and gets easily distracted.. and to make him sit and write for at least 15 to 20 mins is like a mission impossible for me.
Me : Draw a line
He : No .. I want to draw a Snake.
Me : Ok .. fine draw a snake.
Me : Now draw a circle..
He : No .. I want to draw a balloon. Mamma.. how to draw a flying balloon??
Me : ??$$##
How did u teach kids to sit and write properly??
Coming to the recipe.. Sea food is enjoyed very much at home, and kiddo and me in particularly love shrimps. This is one of my favorite recipe that my friend S, shared with me when I visited Hyderabad in December.
I made this for dinner the other day, as my kiddo promised to sit and learn his alphabets …. phew!!!

Dry Roast all the ingredients and grind to fine powder. Preserve in an air tight Jar. Can be used for other masala gravies.
Marinate cleaned prawns in turmeric, red chilli powder and salt. Add 1 Tbsp oil in a kadai, and add the marinated prawns. Let them cook on low for 5 minutes, mixing in between, till they curl and turn opaque.
In a deep wide pan, heat oil.
Add cashews and fry till light brown and take them out on a plate.
Now fry green chillies similarly and take them out on a plate.
Repeat same for curry leaves.
In the same oil, add finely chopped onions.
Add in turmeric, salt, red chilli powder, ginger and garlic paste. Fry till the raw smell disappears.
Now add in coarsely ground onion paste. Fry well till oil oozes out, and leaves the sides of the pan.
Add in the coriander powder, cooked prawns and garam masala. Mix well. Cook covered for 5 minutes on medium flame.
Add in cashews, green chillies and curry leaves which we fried and kept aside.
Finally add coriander leaves.
Serve with steamed rice or coconut rice or any other flavored rice.
Mom’s Notes :
Do not over cook the prawns, or else they might turn hard with a rubbery texture.
Frying cashews, green chillies and curry leaves is just an option. You can skip them if you want.
